FIOS works with solicitors to mitigate or reduce the liability of pensioners on a non-contributory Old Age Pension who have accumulated assets and savings during the time they were on the pension.
We do this by looking at how the assets and savings were accumulated, then assessing what mitigating factors there may have been in each individual case. It's a difficult, bureaucratic process, often involving reviews and the Chief Appeals Officer - but with our help and advice, we have been successful to date. Our input has saved substantial amounts of money for the estates involved.
